Requirements for Interim Crit on Site Strategy and Project Brief

Statement / Brief

  1. Problem Statement
  2. Client / Sponsor / User Groups
  3. Scenario (Why?Who?Where?)
  4. Initial Strategy / Response: Overall approach (e.g. high rise, low density, “a micro city”), Physical Intervention, Metriality, Construction Systems, Tectonics, Character
  5. Architectural Program: Detailed list of spaces, Total area gross/net, circulation percentage, adjacencies/logic
  6. “Character” Sketches: Leverage ideas from the Primer, Diagrams, Vignettes, Details, Models (Physical and Digital), Videos, Collages, Inspirational drawings
  7. Site: Macro, Context/Adjacencies, History, Environmental (climate etc.), People and Vehicles/Modes of transportation, how do you get there and from where, population information/densities and character, circulation patterns, infrastructure, geology, topography, flora/fauna if relevant.

I expect the highest level of craft and detail in the above requirements. Attention to detail, hierarchy and flow of information, presentation techniques even down to what font and color you use. Consistent message. Large drawings that can be seen and interpreted from 2 meters. Seek novel methods of presenting and discussing traditional analytic information. Is there is a better way to describe circulation patterns than red lines with arrow heads?

An Update

I will be spending the next few weeks mainly focusing on the Dissertation so I thought it a useful point to summarise my thoughts thus far.

Perhaps as a response to the underlying ‘shift’ the city centre is undergoing with the new St. David’s II development:

A remote monitoring station is set up. A series of temporary structures listen to and record the rhythm and fluctuations of the city.

The existing physical fabric is surveyed and dissected. Patterns are analysed, digital feeds aggregated. Emotions recorded, history understood.

After a time, the initial accumulation is complete. The programmatic response is released, the architectural intervention begins.

The monitoring continues: temporal relevancy is mantained, new events learned: major city events are anticipated.

The mechanism responds to market trend. New events are aggregated, unexpected possibilities are introduced according to broader supply and demand.

As the shift intensifies and the economic condition substantiates, the programme in turn responds.

Shared Google Calendar

I created a shared google calendar called WSADT Calendar so that we can keep deadlines and meetings synced. I could not add everyone as I still do not have email addresses for David, Nikos, and Matteusz. Please send me the email addresses and I will add you to the list of participants. Please be careful not to delete recurring events etc. I will block off dates/times that I cannot meet with you on a weekly basis.

City 2.0

I have decided to park the film in its current state as I feel it would be better to add information and review as my Thesis develops… I have cut it down and worked up a couple of scenes but still feel there is some way to go. I am happy with the overall sequence, just not with the level of enhancement.

Blackfriars sewage tapping

Spanning between the two bridges- the ‘sewage tappers’ would thrive on the  Thames Tunnel, located directly beneath them. The raw sewage would be extracted from the tunnel and applied to their crops, which when coupled with the south facing site, thrive to provide ample supplies for the self sustenant community.
