The top photo is a close up of bioluminescent dinoflagellates and below is the effect they have on water when they are disturbed. The bottom is bioluminescnce in action. My fish farm has the potential to harvest this bacteria and then release it into West India Dock every night for the entertainment of the restaurant clients. The night time experience of my building will be important since it will be competing with the bright lights of Canary Wharf which forms the background to my site. Experiential activity is important to my program as it draws people into area that currently is vacant at night.

gas silos

Not the prettiest thing I have ever produced – granted- but I just need to pictoralise some ideas I had yesterday. Here I imagine the fish ponds could be something akin to the gas silos located in vicinity of the site with walkways weaved inbetween. The canopy can then form light/ water funnels into the fish ponds.

Aesthetically I have been looking at a style in fashion called ’steampunk’. Could be a red herring  but visually at least I like this idea as it is a skewed take on the site’s industrial past but also embodies a gritty urban future.

I have also been looking at the Carbon Diaries 2015 by Saci Lloyd looks at a world where carbon is rationed within the City of London -a dystopian vision- which could be a relevant setting to place my thesis project within.

Common interest piece for those of us doing thesis projects based around agriculture.  Based on a science fiction novel called Dune.

Does anyone know of any fictional books written on the collapse of food systems??? – would be a good hook to base ideas around

Brief pictorial summary of some ideas that I will be focusing on for my thesis-
